Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Milecrest ("Milecrest", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares and protects information in connection with the Milecrest mobile application (the "App") and the website at milecrest.io (together, the "Services"). Milecrest is designed to be local-first — your running data is stored on your device and we collect as little personal information as possible.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what the App needs to function. This includes:
- Location & route data. While you actively track a run, the App uses your device's GPS to measure distance, pace, elapsed time and your route path.
- Profile information. A display name, avatar selection, goal distance and weekly target that you set during onboarding.
- Activity & rank data. Your saved runs, earned XP, rank tier, badges, streaks and leaderboard position.
- App preferences. Settings such as your preferred units (kilometres or miles).
- Device & diagnostic data. Limited technical information (such as app version and crash diagnostics) that may be processed by the app store platform to keep the App stable.
We do not collect your contacts, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or sell any personal information.
2. How we use information
- To provide live run tracking and save your run history.
- To calculate XP, rank tiers, badges, streaks and progress.
- To display your position on leaderboards within the App.
- To remember your profile and preferences between sessions.
- To maintain, troubleshoot and improve the stability of the App.
3. Location data & permissions
The App requests foreground location permission for the sole purpose of tracking your runs while the run screen is active. Location is processed on your device to compute distance, pace and your route, and to power your run history and rank.
You may grant or revoke location permission at any time through your device's system settings. If location access is not granted, run tracking will not function, but you can still use other parts of the App.
4. How & where data is stored
Milecrest stores your runs, profile, rank state, badges and settings locally on your device. The current version of the App does not operate a backend server that receives your personal run data. Competitive opponents shown on leaderboards are generated locally as realistic demo data and do not represent real individuals' personal information.
If optional online or social features are introduced in the future, this policy will be updated to describe any data transmitted to or stored on our servers, and you will be notified within the App.
6. Third-party services
The App may rely on third-party platform services to operate and to be distributed, including the Google Play Store and Apple App Store (for distribution, updates and crash diagnostics) and the device operating system's location services. These providers process information under their own privacy policies. Maps, where shown, may be rendered using a mapping provider's SDK subject to that provider's terms.
7. Data retention & deletion
Because your data is stored on your device, you remain in control of it. You can reset your profile or clear your data at any time from within the App's settings, or by uninstalling the App, which removes its locally stored data from your device.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information. Because data is held on your device, its security also depends on the protections you enable on your device (such as a passcode or biometric lock). No method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to data portability. Because Milecrest stores data locally, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the App. For any additional requests, contact us using the details below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
10. Children's privacy
Milecrest is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
11. International users
Milecrest is operated from and intended for use consistent with applicable local laws. Because the App is local-first, your personal run data generally does not leave your device. Where platform providers process limited diagnostic data, they may do so in the countries in which they operate.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves — for example, when optional online or social features are introduced. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by an in-App notice. Your continued use of the Services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
